Why Cornerstone
Cornerstone Christian Academy is an independent, K–8 Christian school in Southwest Philadelphia. Our mission is to educate children, including those from underserved families, in an environment that provides the highest standards for academic achievement and spiritual development. Accredited by the Middle States Association and a member of PAIS and ADVIS, Cornerstone is entering an exciting new chapter as we expand our campus, deepen our programs, and continue our pursuit of becoming a premier independent Christian school in Philadelphia.
We seek mission-aligned colleagues who are passionate about academic excellence, Christ-centered formation, and the flourishing of every child. Cornerstone affirms the dignity and worth of every individual, made in the image of God, and is committed to building a diverse and inclusive school community where students, families, and staff from all backgrounds are welcomed, valued, and respected.
About the Role
As Cornerstone enters a defining season of growth—including the opening of an expanded campus and the launch of new programs—the Director of Annual Giving will be responsible for driving the next phase of growth in the Annual Fund, with a clear mandate to scale contribution revenue significantly over the next 2–4 years and build a more diversified and sustainable base of support for annual operations, including contributions through individual, foundation, and institutional giving, and the PA Educational Tax Credit Program.
The successful candidate will lead all annual giving initiatives, donor retention strategies, and stewardship efforts, with a focus on expanding the donor base, strengthening the mid-level pipeline, and deepening engagement across giving segments. This role requires a disciplined, data-informed approach to growth—ensuring that increased revenue is matched by improved retention, defined donor pathways, and a consistently high standard for stewardship of the donor experience.
Key Responsibilities
Annual Fund
- Execute immediate and long-term fundraising plans, including strategies to exponentially grow and sustain individual fundraising from Cornerstone’s constituents.
- Track annual fund performance, and meet and exceed annual fundraising goals set annually.
- 50% of the incumbent’s time should be spent actively retaining, stewarding, and growing the annual fund prospect pool that currently comprises 400+ individual donors. The constituent pool is shared between the Director of Annual Giving (<$10,000), and the CAO (Major Gifts), and there is a high need for collaboration between these two roles.
- Support the CAO for Major Gift works and capital campaign; this includes outreach for appointments, preparing briefing documents, and any additional follow-up as appropriate.
- Implement donor retention and progression strategies, transitioning high-potential donors into the Major Gifts Program overseen by the CAO.
- Design, implement, and evaluate annual appeals to achieve fundraising goals in collaboration with the Director of Marketing & Communications.
- Support the Community Engagement Manager in growing Cornerstone’s donor engagement program, Teammates.
PA Tax Credit Program
- Drive exponential growth of Cornerstone’s PA Tax Credit Program achieving goals by managing and developing a portfolio of corporate and individual tax-credit donors; building and maintaining a robust prospect pipeline; and implementing qualification, cultivation, solicitation, renewal, and upgrade strategies.
- 50% of the incumbent’s time should be spent actively managing and growing the EITC prospect pool to meet and exceed annual growth targets including 20+ meaningful contacts/visits per month.
- Organize events that support the program including donor appreciation and donor education events.
Data, Analysis and Innovation
- Maintain rigorous, accurate, timely, and complete database records (gifts, pledges, contacts, restrictions, and soft credits), and other updates including biographical information and contact reports.
- Analyze and track progress against goals including preparing monthly reports on giving trends, donor retention, and campaign effectiveness.
- Apply data analytics to inform fundraising strategy, improve donor retention and upgrading, and support continuous improvement and growth.
- Collaborate with the Director of Financial Services for monthly KPI reconciliation.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum 3+ years of development experience within an independent school or higher education.
- Demonstrated ownership of revenue goals and comfort being measured against them.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and project management skills; thrives on deadlines, metrics, and follow-through.
- Excel in a fast-paced, mission-driven school environment with ambitious goals and high expectations.
- CRM proficiency (RE NXT) with strong data hygiene habits and high attention to detail.
Personal Qualities
- Highly relational and openly curious. Understands the importance of listening and understanding donor motivations.
- Strong stewardship and cultivation skills - takes a donor-centric approach to fundraising.
- Goal oriented and enjoys celebrating the win!
- Proactive, well-organized, and adopts a project management approach to workflows.
- Values collaboration and being part of a winning team.
- Life-long learner, seeks continuous professional development.
- Personally committed to the faith-based and social justice mission of Cornerstone Christian Academy.
Compensation and Benefits
